How PAR+ Coating Helps RegulateLeaf Temperature
The impact of temperature on plant health iswell-known. Extreme fluctuations can stress plants, reduce growth, and evenlead to irreversible damage like leaf burn. For orchids, which keep theirstomata closed during the day to prevent water loss, temperature regulation isespecially important. That’s where our PAR+ coating comes into play.
A grower using PAR+ on their orchid crop observed adramatic reduction in peak leaf temperature. In areas with clear glass, theleaf peak temperature reached 28.9°C. However, under our PAR+ coating, the leaftemperature was reduced to 25.3°C, without affecting the minimum temperature.This means that the peak heat was effectively reduced, but the coolerconditions were maintained, preventing sunburn of the leaves and creating amore stable growing environment.

And the best part? This reduction in peak leaf temperaturehappened without affecting the minimum leaf temperature. This is crucialbecause orchids need a stable temperature range to thrive, especially duringcooler periods at night or on cloudy days. By maintaining this stability, ourPAR+ coating helps prevent the stress that can come from temperaturefluctuations, enabling orchids to grow more consistently and healthily.
Leaf Temperature vs. Air Temperature
One important thing to note: this effect is on leaftemperature, not the air temperature in the greenhouse. While air temperatureplays a role in overall plant health, it’s the temperature at the leaf surfacethat has the most direct impact on plant physiology. By targeting leaftemperature specifically, PAR+ ensures that plants are better protected fromheat stress without affecting the broader climate conditions in the greenhouse.
